New Patient Checklist

Excellent care happens when the physicians and office staff are aligned with your family priorities and philosophies regarding medical care. We enjoy practicing shared decision-making with our families.

The following checklist can help you decide if
San Diego Uptown Pediatrics is the appropriate medical home for your children.

We look forward to meeting you and forming a rewarding relationship.

  • Vaccines

Vaccines are in important part of keeping kids healthy.  We follow the immunization schedule outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

  • Antibiotics

We work hard to not overuse antibiotics. We discuss the appropriate use of antibiotics with our families and follow evidence-based guidelines and prescribe antibiotics judiciously.

We do not routinely prescribe antibiotics over the phone as we do not believe that is good medicine. We will prescribe an antibiotic when we believe it is an appropriate treatment.

  • Medical Home

We work hard to provide comprehensive medical care and serve as your medical home.  We have same day availability for sick appointments, and prefer to treat urgent matters in our office rather than have our patients seen in urgent care clinics. We want to be involved in either providing care in our office where appropriate, or referring you to the most appropriate specialist and helping to coordinate your care.

  • Technology

Our practice prides itself on efficiency through use of technology. You will be encouraged to consult our website, register for and use our patient portal, and effectively use automated reminders for appointments and for routine care and immunizations that are due.

  • Scheduling Appointments

For acute care, call the office to schedule an appointment.  In order for our office to run efficiently and minimize wait times, we do not offer walk-in appointments; however, we have availability for same day appointments every day.

Well visits may be scheduled up to 6 months in advance.

  • After Hours

We have a physician on call at all times. When our office is closed and you have an urgent issue that cannot wait until we are open, you may call our after hours answering service.  The physician on call will call you back and provide advice.

You may wish to check the "Is Your Child Sick?" section of our website for helpful information before using this service. Read more about After Hours care.

  • Insurance

We are contracted with most PPO Insurance plans, including Tricare Select.  We also accept patients who prefer to self-pay.  We are not contracted with any HMO plans or Medi-cal.
