Newborn Care
Our pediatricians understand the joys and challenges of taking care of a newborn. We provide the same care we use for treating our own families. If you’re pregnant and looking for a pediatrician, we are happy to schedule a prenatal visit and answer any questions you may have.
Newborn Care FAQs
When does my newborn have their first checkup?
Your new baby has their first checkup 2-3 days after leaving the hospital. At this visit we will review records pertaining to the pregnancy and your baby's hospital stay. We will perform a comprehensive exam to be sure they’re growing and developing normally. During the checkup, we will:
- Check your baby’s weight, length, and head circumference
- Evaluate your baby’s feeding, bowel, and sleeping habits
- Perform a physical examination, including an eye exam
- Discuss what to expect between now and your next visit
- Answer any questions you may have
What are well-child visits?
Well-child visits are ongoing checkups for children that follow a specific schedule. After the initial newborn visit, we will see your baby at two weeks, and again at two months.
During each visit, we will evaluate their growth, developmental milestones, and behaviors.
Every well-child checkup is an opportunity to talk with the pediatrician about baby care and your baby’s health and safety. We also start immunizations at the two-month visit to protect your baby from:
- Polio
- Hepatitis B
- Rotavirus
- Diphtheria
- Haemophilus Influenzae
- Pneumococcus
